CCMC671: Case the Catalogue!

Writer's picture: loritamariecraftsloritamariecrafts

One of my favourite ways to get inspiration to make a card is from Stampin' Up!'s catalogues. They are jam packed with tons of amazing samples and ideas, you will always be able to find something to get you going! For the month of July, the Thursday design team for Create with Connie & Mary will be caseing a sample in the catalogue each week.

For this week's project, I knew exactly what I wanted to try. I wanted to make a fun Canada Day card featuring the United Through Creativity digital download that Stampin' Up! is offering for free on the website right now!

To create this card, I was inspired by a few different elements of the sample from the catalogue. The first thing was the layout and the second was using the fun checks embossing folder. Here is the pic of the original project.

My card base is just Thick Basic White, cut into a standard card size, 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" and then folded in half at 4 1/4".The DSP (which comes from the Tidings of Christmas DSP), is cut at 4" x 5 1/4" and is then adhered to the card front. The Real Red cardstock is 3 1/4" x 4 3/4". The Basic White cardstock is cut at 3" x 4 1/2", embossed and then adhered at an angle on top of the Real Red. Before I attached these to the card, I wrapped around this fun black and white twine and tied a bow.

As I mentioned earlier, the maple leaf and the sentiment come from a digital download that is currently available for free on Stampin' Up!'s website, called United Through Creativity. It includes many fabulous images and sentiments representing a variety of cultures. You simply download it and then print off the ones that you want. I coloured my maple leaf with my Real Red Blends and then cut it out. The sentiment was just printed and cut out and layered onto some Basic Black cardstock. I simply added a few Matte Black Dots and was done!

I hope you'll head on over to Create with Connie & Mary to see how the other fabulous designers cased the same project. It's always fun to see the different ideas people have from the same starting point!
