I was looking through my card stash with my son the other day and we realized that I was really lacking in boys birthday cards. So, for this week's sketch challenge for Create with Connie & Mary, I tried my hand at creating one.
I have always liked the way blue and orange work together, it's actually the colour scheme I used when I created a nursery for my son (who is 8 already!). Combining these colours with this nice simple sketch make for a great birthday card. Here is an image of the original sketch so that you can recreate your own version.
My card base is Night of Navy, then the next layer is Pumpkin Pie cardstock cut at 4 3/4" x 4". The patterned paper is of course from my go to, Pattern Party Designer Series Paper. I just keep using it for everything because it can be used for so many different looks! (If you place a qualifying order, you can use your Stampin' Rewards to earn this DSP for free!) The DSP was cut at 5 1/4" x 3 1/2". Then I added 2 more strips of cardstock; Night of Navy cut at 3 3/4" x 1/2" and Bermuda Bay, cut at 3 1/2' x 1/2".
The sentiment comes from one of my favourite birthday sets, Happiest of Birthdays. I heat embossed it using clear powder over Night of Navy ink. It just gives it a brighter colour to really pop off the Pool Party cardstock. I kept the embellishments quite simple, going with a couple brushed metallic dots, some white twine and an orange star.
