Hello! Thanks for joining us on the Create with Connie & Mary Saturday Blog Hop! I'm really excited about the next few weeks of projects for you. We'll be focusing on some fun techniques and to start with our first theme is Plaid Tidings. Our task was to create a card with a handmade plaid pattern. It felt good to challenge myself a bit to figure out how I was going to create this card.
I actually chose my colours first, deciding I liked how Coastal Cabana, Night of Navy and Crushed Curry went together. Then, I had to figure out how to make a plaid pattern.
Here are the instructions:
Using Coastal Cabana ink and a Blending Brush I created the main background. I had 2 strips of masking paper that were 1" wide. I first placed them vertically on my white cardstock about 1" in from either end then coloured in the other areas.
I took off the masking paper and then put it back on my cardstock horizontally, this time about 1/2" in from each side. I then coloured again with the blending brushes, but went a bit lighter. Then I removed the masking paper.
Using a ruler and the brush end of my Night of Navy Stampin' Write Marker, I drew lines right through the middle of each white space.
Lastly, with the fine tip end of the Crushed Curry Stampin' Write Marker and a ruler, I drew lines just to the right of the vertical Navy lines and just above the horizontal lines.
I was a little surprised with how well it turned out! It was definitely fun to try. To complete the card I didn't want to take away from the plaid, so I just added on the 'thanks' from the Amazing Thanks Dies (Item #157816) and a few gems. I hope you'll try this technique out too!
